Overcoming Quarantine Depression

You feel secluded, alone, tired, bored, your life is falling apart, you just want to see your friends, to leave the house, for things to go back to normal. You aren’t alone. And you aren’t alone in the reality; this is the new normal. Time doesn’t reset itself, you can’t go back.

You can only move forward. And your perspective on the situation will decide how you move forward. No matter what you do, time will continue to pass. You have the opportunity to choose to be mad about it, to choose to complain, to sleep the time away and wait it out. You can choose to let this depression overcome you. Or you can choose to see the good in the situation.

Everyone had plans, everyone vacations planned, school, graduation, shopping trips, family gatherings, all of it. There is no shortage of things being cancelled and postponed. YOUR LIFE does not need to be one of those things. You get to decide that.

For so long you have had a list of things you would do if you had the time, guess what, here is your time. Do your thang! You want to get healthy, now is the time. You want to focus, not eat out so much, workout. NOW IS THE TIME. You want to start reading books, you want to plant a garden, you want to start writing, you want to start an etsy shop. NOW is when you make it happen.

This time that is passing, you can’t get back. At the tail end of it, there will be two types of people, those in a rut, who feel like everything fell apart with quarantine, who missed the boat in realizing that everything they are believing their life revolves around is something outside themselves. Then there are those who saw the blessing in disguise, who saw this as a time for growth, for prioritizing, for self-awareness.

This is the new normal. Right here is where you get to create it. You are being given an opportunity for growth, your future self will thank you for taking it. Overcoming the depression you are feeling from quarantine doesn’t revolve around quarantine ending. It revolves around you changing your mindset. It revolves around you accepting that there are no longer any excuses for why you aren’t doing the thing.
